After spending over 40 years as a leader in the communications business, including owning and operating radio stations, a concert promotions company, a radio/TV production studio and as one of the original owners of the Seattle Mariners, Bellevue entrepreneur Lester M. Smith purchased a small Seattle-based business forms manufacturer in 1987.

Changing the profile of the company was his number one goal.

Named after Danny Kaye, the former Hollywood entertainer, and Lester Smith, Kaye-Smith is solely owned by Kaye-Smith Enterprises.

Today, Kaye-Smith is an industry leader in the data-driven communications and document outsourcing business. Our over 250 employees serve Pacific Northwest based companies doing business regionally, nationally or internationally. It was Mr. Smith’s philosophy of investing in good people and state-of-the-art technology that has led Kaye-Smith to become a diverse organization capable of offering a complete suite of products and services.

Kaye-Smith is a software company, a manufacturing company and a service company.

As a software company, Kaye-Smith developed an on-line, real-time Supply Chain/Inventory Management system considered the most sophisticated and robust in the industry today. Rapsedi (pronounced Rhapsody) provides customers with interactive access and instant status on their inventory. It also allows the capability to electronically place releases for shelf stock (finished goods) or to access an electronic archive and request materials on-demand from our digital output equipment. Through Rapsedi, each and every transaction is tracked; inventory monitored and expenses cost allocated live and in real time.  

As a manufacturing company, our main operation is located in Renton, Washington. This facility occupies over 150,000 square feet of manufacturing, storage and fulfillment space operating 24 hours, 7 days a week. Our Portland, Oregon operations include another 50,000 square feet of manufacturing, storage and fulfillment space, and serves as our exclusive disaster recovery/business continuity facility.
